Here is the official guide of syncing the google contacts to your iPhone. Most of the people have the gmail account and their contact data backed up in Google’s database. Sync Google Contacts to iPhone

Apple officially allows to sync Google data including contacts, reminders, calenders etc with the iPhone. You can enter the user account details to the settings of the device and then proceed .

  1. First of all Open your iPhone Settings app.
  2. Now Tap Accounts & Passwords
  3. Click on Add Account  Google & your email and password.
  4. Tap Next & Switch the”Contacts” on.
  5. Now Save the action.
  6. That’s it. Your contacts will sync.

Yes, you can go to settings and add google account. After entering the user credentials, just tap the contacts option. This will synchronise the contact data only.

Yes, when you sync the google accounts with iPhone, there is an option for you to sync the iPhone data with iCloud. Now it is your individual decision if you wish to use Gmail or iCloud in future.
